Yes, we all know we can’t drive when we’re drunk. We need to get a safe ride home with someone else. And then there’s the nagging voice inside your head: what about tomorrow morning? How do I get my car back?
In Whitehorse, a cab company is answering that question. Premier Cabs hopes to reassure customers that it will pick them up after a night of drinking and then take them back to their cars the next morning during the holiday season.
What’s more, the ride back to their car in the morning will be free.
The company calls it the “Free Ride Back” program, and it’s being offered as a service to make Whitehorse safer. It doesn’t matter if the customer has been drinking at a bar, a restaurant, an event, or at a private restaurant. All a customer needs to do is request the service when calling Premier Cabs. The safe ride home and the return the next morning are bundled together.
The largest taxi service in Whitehorse, Premier Cabs has been in business since 2006. It is owned by Ken Giam, and has 30 taxis serving the city with a 24-hour dispatch service.
DUI statistics are records of bad decisions, and those decisions sometimes begin with misguided concerns about logistics. How will I retrieve my car tomorrow if I take a taxi home tonight? In fact, no amount of bother is worth the risk of an impaired drive home, but the impaired mind doesn’t think straight by definition. The idea of the Free Ride Back program is to take away the need for this faulty reasoning. You’ll have access to your car in the morning – no worries.
Anyone out on the town during the holiday season is advised: there’s no excuse to drink and drive. If you don’t already have a safe ride home, call Premier. They’ll make sure you get back to your car the next day. Problem solved. Have a good holiday.
