If you’re in or around Toronto this June 5th, plan for a bit of exercise. And expect to do a bit of good for your fellow citizens as well. You’ll be donning a pair of trainers and running (or walking) a very reasonable 5 kilometres – while being sponsored by your friends and family who are as public spirited as you. That’s the idea of Strides for Change.
Strides for Change – officially, the MADD Canada PIA Law Strides for Change (GTA Event) – is MADD Canada’s signature 5km walk/run to raise awareness of the dangers of impaired driving. The title sponsor is the PIA Law, a leading law firm. Other companies and organizations have also given their support to this important cause.
Registration is now open for the event, which takes place the morning of June 5th, 2016. Last year 450 people did the run; this year MADD Canada is hoping for at least 500 participants.
The run/walk begins at J.C. Saddington Park in Mississauga (Port Credit). You’ll be walking along the waterfront trail and around the Harbour to tall Oaks Park and back.
Prizes and Swag
In addition to a free t-shirt with every entry, prizes and medals will be awarded for the three fastest men and women runners. There will also be a prize draw for the walkers, and even pre-selected prizes. That means that, if you’re planning on making the event, you might already have won a prize!
The event will also feature pop-a-balloon prizes for kids and adults, and a silent auction, all of which will help raise money for the cause.
To further entice participants, food and drink will be part of the offerings. Maple Lodge Farms will be providing breakfast and lunch
