The ribbons are being distributed by MADD, and they’re a reminder to all motorists: please drive sober this holiday season. Project Red Ribbon runs from November 1st to January 4th, because during the holidays too many people drink and drive.
The ribbon is a reminder that drunk driving is a completely preventable crime. These are the simple measures that you need to take:
- Plan ahead if you know you’ll be drinking. Take public transport, or arrange a ride home
- Never drive with an impaired driver, or let a friend drive if they have been drinking
- If you see someone you think is driving impaired, call 911 and report them
- If you find you need a ride home because you’ve had too many and can’t drive, just call #TAXI
Sponsored by Allstate Canada and other companies and organisations, Project Red Ribbon was conceived as a way for drivers to show their commitment to safe and sober driving.
You’re invited to do your part. Just follow the tips above, and display your red ribbon proudly. And know that while drunk driving is still a problem in Canada, you are part of the solution.
