Congratulations! You’ve had your ignition interlock installed for a while, and you’ve been careful to follow the procedures and pass the breath test. It’s time to have the interlock removed and get your Ontario unconditional licence. Here’s what you need to know:
- Remedial Measures Program. Your suspension conditions include completion of the Back on Track Remedial Measures Program. That could include either the 1-day education workshop or the 2-day treatment workshop, depending on what your assessment was. You are also required to do a follow-up interview so that treatment personnel can evaluate how your treatment has progressed. Be sure these steps are all completed.
- Final download. Your last download appointment is also the day you have your ignition interlock removed. You can have the download up to 2 days before your interlock period officially ends, but keep in mind that if you choose to have the device removed early, you cannot drive your vehicle until the official end date has arrived.
Once the device is removed, your car or truck will be exactly as it was before you had the interlock installed. From this point on, it’s all up to you. As long as you continue to drive sober, you can forget about ignition interlocks and breath tests.
Once again, congratulations – and safe driving!
