We’ll save you the suspense: the answer is drivers over 65, who are less likely to speed, phone, and text while driving. Not surprisingly, the group that is most likely to do these things – and hence, the Most Unsafe Drivers in Canada – are in the 18-34 range (with the interesting exception of talking on the phone, which appears to be a pursuit of middle age). These new stats come from a survey by insurance company Kanetix.ca.
Canada’s drunk driving statistics tell a similar story. Impaired driving takes over 1000 lives each year, and yes, they are mostly young lives. Drivers aged 18-34, then, need the most attention from educators, law enforcement and road safety organizations. Consistent enforcement, coupled with all-offender ignition interlock laws, will also make a difference. Most of these drivers will grow out of their bad habits and join Canada’s safest drivers – provided they live to do so.
